Former Chester forward
Frank Wayman died recently after being struck by a motor
cycle in Ferryhill, County Durham. Our condolences go
out to his family and friends.
Frank Wayman was an adaptable outside
right who joined Chester from Preston North End on the
verge of the 1955/56 season. At the time the Bishop
Auckland born winger was serving in the RAF at Kirkham
alongside one of his Chester colleagues, goalkeeper
Bobby Jones. A skilful ball player Frank made 30 Division
Three North appearances and scored two goals against
Darlington and Gateshead. At the end of the season he
was de-mobilised from the RAF and placed on the open
to transfer list at Sealand Road as he wanted to move
closer to his Durham home. He signed for Darlington
where he was later joined by his elder brother Charlie,
a former professional with a number of clubs including
Preston and Southampton. Frank only managed one appearance
for Darlington before signing for non-leaguers Easington
Colliery.
