HARRISON RETURNS IN NEWCASTLE VICTORY

Midfielder Danny Harrison returned from injury to play for Chester in their 4-1 victory at Newcastle Town last night, Harrison missed most of last season following a hip operation making only 16 appearances since signing from Tannmere Rovers in the summer of 2013. Chris Iwelumo picked up an ankle knock in the opening five minutes and took no further part in the game being replaced by Tom Peers.

Teenage midfielder Liam Blake opened the scoring on 34 minutes and Peter Winn doubled the advantage two minutes later scoring from long range. Winn was on the scoresheet again converting a 58th minute penalty following a foul on Wayne Riley. Tin Sanders pulled a goal back for the home side before trialist Bohan Dixon made it 4-0 to Chester with rour minutes remaining.

Chester: Hall, Disney, Peters, Charnock, Dixon, Blake, Harrison (Rae 46), Winn, Iwelumo (Peers 5), Miller (Menagh 70), Riley. Subs not used: Hobson, Rooney, Brown, Kay, Worsnop, McConville.

DEFEAT AT WITTON

Chester suffered their first pre-season defeat when they were beaten 2-1 at Witton Albion on Saturday. The Blues found themselves 2-0 down after 34 minutes as strikes from Danny Andrews and Neil Harvey gave Jon Worsnop no chance in the Chester goal. Despite plento of possession as the game wore on the blues failed to really test ex-Chester player Chris Sanna in the home goal. Craig Mahon did provide one moment of magic though with a fine consolation goal five minutes from time shooting home in off the crossbar from 25 yards out.

Chester: Worsnop (Hall 46), Disney (Taylor 46), Brown, Charnock, Roberts, Mahon, James (Dixon 61), Rooney (Riley 61), Menagh, McConville (Hobson 46), Iwelumo (Winn 61).

BLUES DRAW WITH BURNLEY U21 SIDE

Chester drew 2-2 with a Burnley U21 side last night. Jamie Menagh from the penalty spot and Matty Brown scored for the Boues who fought back from being a goal behind on both occasions.

MCINTYRE LEAVES
Experienced defender Kevin McINtyre has joined Connah’s Quay Nomads. McIntyre rejoined the club, having previousley played for Chester City, last summer and made 33+2 appearances last season.

WREXHAM MATCH DATE CHANGE

Chester’s home league match against rivals Wrexham will be screened live by BT Sport and will now take place on Monday 22 September, kick-off 20.00hrs.

ROONEY STRIKE EARNS DRAW
Chester drew their first home pre-season friendly 1-1 with Crewe Alexandra. An entertaining game saw Crewe’s Chris Atkinson give the Railwaymen the lead on 28 minutes but midfielder John Rooney cancelled that out with a superb 25-yarder on 67 minutes.

YOUNG BLUES CLAIM UPTON WIN
A young Chester side came away from West Cheshire League side Upton AA with a 4-2 victory in a pre-season friendly last night. Chester took a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes with goals from trialist Oscar Durnin and Sean Miller. The home side pulled a goal back through Nathan Mapletoft before goals from trialist Alex Hughes and striker Tom Peers gave the Blues a 4-1 advantage. A late consolation goal from Todd Reid reduced the final score to 4-2.

WINNING START TO PRE-SEASON

Chester’s pre-season campaign got of to a winning start with a 4-2 victory at Marine. Two goals for trialist and King’s Lynn player George Thomson plus penalties from John Rooney and Chris Iwelumo gave Chester a four goal lead before two Marine goals reduced the arrears. Goalkeeper Jon Worsnop was sent off ten minutes from time after bringing down Lewis Copling.

ROBERTS SIGNS
Chester have signed former Welsh International left back Gareth Roberts. The Wrexham-born defender spent the majority of his career at Tranmere Rovers where he made 338 appearances for the club before moving to Doncaster Rovers. He spent last season at Notts County where he made six appearances. Roberts has been capped nine times by Wales.

HOME START FOR BLUES

Chester begin the 2014/15 Conference Premier season on Saturday 9 August with a home game against Barnet. The Blues then travel on the following Tuesday for their first away fixture at Forest Green Rovers. The home derby with Wrexham takes place on Saturday 20 September with the return at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday 7 March. The festive fixtures see Altrincham visit Chester on Boxing Day with the return match at Moss Lane on New Year’s Day. The season concludes with a home match against Nuneaton Town on Saturday 25 April.
