NEW DEAL FOR ROBERTS

Gary Roberts has signed a new one year deal at Chester. The Chester born 32-year-old midfielder was given a training programme for the early summer by managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley and once he’d satisfield them of his commitment a deal was signed.

“We asked him to commit to this training schedule and he has done it and totally got on board with him and he looks great. Last summer he didn’t come back in the best shape but this summer he is one of a few players who has come back lighter and he looks ready to fly, he’s the fittest I’ve seen him.”

DEFENDER JONES RETURNS

PRE-SEASON TOUR

The Blues are to spend five days in Cornwall next month as part of their pre-season build-up. They will be based in Newquay in Cornwall from Monday 8-Friday 12 July, based at, and using the facilities of the Mount Wise Stadium - home of Newquay AFC, and will play their hosts in a friendly on Tuesday 9 July, kick-off 19.30hrs. Blues benefactor Stuart Murphy has helped make the trip possible.

Joint manager Anthony Johnson said: “There’s a few important factors behind this trip. The players are under no illusions, they will be worked very, very hard and put through their paces during the week. Pre-season is a six-week period of hard work – and that’s physically, mentally and emotionally. We feel getting the lads away will make it easier for them to get to know one another and easier to bond when they are in each other’s pockets for the week.”
