BACK TO BACK HOME WINS
The Blues made it
back to back victories as in-form striker Tom
Peers notched a hat-trick as Chester beat Oxford
City 3-1 at Deva Stadium on Tuesday night. Reece
Daly set up the striker for the opening goal on
13 minutes, and shortly after Peers hit the post
with another effort after intercepting a bad back
pass. Peers made it 2-0 six minutes before the
interval shooting home across goalkeeper Jonathan
Macaulay from the corner of the penalty area.
Oxford made a change at the break and five minutes
after the restart pulled a goal back as Jalen
Jones rose unmarked to head home from a corner.
Josh Parker cam close to an equaliser heading
just over the bar before Peers wrapped up the
points with his third goal five minutes from time
tapping home at the far post from a cross from
substitute Dylan Mottley-Henry.
The last Chester player to
score first team hat-trick was Akwasi Asante in
a 3-1 win at Telford United in September 2019.

24 November 2024 LEADERS
BEATEN AT THE DEVA
Chester put Saturday’s
disappointing FA Trophy defeat at Gainsborough Trinity
behind them with a gritty 2-1 home victory over
league leaders Chorley at the weekend. The club
lost their appeal over last weeks red card so Kevin
Roberts deputised for the suspended Jack Bainbridge.
The Blues took the lead midway through the opening
half as Nathan Woodthorpe released Charlie Caton
down the left and his cross was deftly flicked home
by Tom Peers. Some fine saves from Matt Urwin in
the Magpies goal kept the score down to one at the
break.
Chester doubled their lead twenty minutes from time
through defender Harrison Burke heading home from
an inswinging Declan Weeks free-kick.
Chorley pulled a goal back through substitute Tom
Carr five minutes from time, scoring from close
range after Elyh Harrison had parried a Danny Ormerod
shot. The Blues weren’t to be denied through
and held out for three valuable and well deserved
points.

LATE GOAL ENDS TROPHY HOPES
For the second season running
the Blues were knocked out of the FA Trophy at the
first hurdle, losing 1-0 at Gainsborough Trinity.
The game was heading towards
a penalty shoot-out until the Holy Trinity struck
two minutes from time as Javelle Clarke’s
cross was spilt by Elyh Harrison allowing Declan
Howe to bundle the ball home from close range.
Chester had been reduced
to ten men eleven minutes from time after Jack Bainbridge
was shown a straight red card following a challenge

LATE BURKE GOAL SEALS WIN
FOR BLUES
Harrison Burke was the hero
as he rose to head home Declan Weeks’ corner
three minutes from time on Saturday to claim all
three points from the first ever meeting with Needham
Market.
The Blues had the chance
to double their lead in stoppage time when they
were awarded a penalty after goalkeeper Marcus Garnham
had pushed Kurt Willoughby in the penalty area.
Garnham was shown a straight red card and following
a reshuffle was replaced in goal by Danny Cullum
who then with his first touch saved Willoughby’s
resulting penalty kick.

DEFEAT AT DARLO
The Blues were beaten 1-0
at Darlington last night. After a fairly even first
half the home side struck the only goal of the game
five minutes after the restart with Cedric Main
scoring as the Blues defence failed to clear a Kallum
Griffiths cross from the right, the ball fell to

yards.

BLUES BOUNCE BACK IN STYLE
Chester put the disappointment
of the defeat at Curzon Ashton last week with a
commanding 3-0 home victory over Hereford. Manager
Calum McIntyre made changes to the starting X1 giving
a debut to on-loan Burnley midfielder Will Hugill
and there was also a start for Reece Daly recently
recalled from a loan sell at Witton Albion. They
replaced the club captain George Glendon and Declan
Weeks.
It took the Blues just thirty
five seconds to register the opening goal with Charlie
Caton rising to head home a pinpoint Hugill cross
from the right past former Blue Aaron Chapman in
the Bulls goal.
There was a superb passage
of play in the build up to the second goal on 62
minutes that saw Tom Peers bury a six yard header
from Nathan Woodthorpe’s left wing cross.
Chester wrapped up the points with a third
goal twelve minutes later, Caton notching his second
after being set up by Harrison Burke.
Victory lifted Chester up to eleventh place in the
league ahead of four successive away matches beginning
at Darlington on Tuesday, kick-off 19.45hrs.
