RARING TO GO
Chester’s pre-season campaign finished with a 1-1 home draw with Port Vale on Saturday. Once again Nyal Bell was on the scoresheet after 68 minutes for the Blues, canceling out the visitors’ opening goal eight minutes earlier. Manager Jon McCarthy opted to rest striker Harry White as well as Jordan Chapell, there was no place in the squad either for Ross Hannah. McCarthy also took the opportunity to look at 21-year-old Burnley goalkeeper Conor Mitchell who played the full 90 minutes.

DERBY RESTRICTIONS LIFTED
Chester’s home game against Wrexham has been switched to Friday 10 November and the Cheshire Constabulary and North Wales Police have confirmed that the ‘bubble match’ restrictions that have been in place for the fixture since 2013 has been lifted, allowing away supporters to make their own way to the match.

A joint statement from Chester FC, Wrexham AFC, Cheshire Constabulary and North Wales Police said: “The intention has always been to return the fixtures to 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, with independent travel for supporters.”

“Following a considerable reduction in arrests and disorder at the matches since the arrangements were introduced, all parties have agreed that this season the ‘Safe Transport’ element will be removed, allowing fans to make their own way to the games. In the continued interests of safety, the games will remain all ticket and the initial match at Chester will take place at 7.45pm on Friday, November 10.”

The home game will remain all-ticket, and kick-off at 19.45hrs. Arrangements for the return fixture at The Racecourse in March 2018 are yet to be confirmed and will no doubt be subject to review after the November game.

DEFEAT TO WALSALL
Nyal Bell was on the scoresheet as Chester’s pre-season matches continued with a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of League One side Walsall. The Saddlers had taken a first half lead with a Luke Leahy close range effort, before a Liam Davies through pass found Bell who smashed the ball home from the edge of the box to draw the sides level on 51 minutes. Chances were few and far between until Walsall grabbed the winner six minutes from time through Mitchell Candlin.

NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL ANNOUNCED
The club have announced a new two year sponsorship deal for the Main (East) stand with Chester-based insurance company Red Insure. The naming deal has been possible after the club triggered an option in the contract with Maxiflow to end their current agreement.

Chief Executive Mark Maguire said: “Red Insure have a strong association with football, having been involved for some time with the National League, they are based in Chester and during discussions in recent months have clearly bought into the plan that we have to build a platform for future success.”

“We are confident that we can deliver significant value for their involvement as they become one of our major sponsors alongside MBNA, Swansway Chester and Swettenham Chemists. There will be further announcements of new partnerships in the coming days and we are confident that we can continue to build on the positive atmosphere around the club.”

BLUES BEATEN AT ALTRINCHAM
Chester suffered their first pre-season defeat at the hands of Altrincham last night, 3-2. Liam Davies and Lucas Dawson were on target for the Blues who made a series of changes at the break. Craig Mahon, Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, Lloyd Marsh-Hughes and Ross Hannah all missed the game. The Blues are next in action at Witton Albion on Thursday night (19.30hrs), followed by a home game on Saturday against Walsall, kick-off 15.00hrs.

17 July 2017
VICTORY AT BALA
Chester got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Welsh premier League side Bala Town. On target for the Blues were Nyal Bell, Lloyd Marsh-Hughes and Harry White.

HORWOOD LEAVES CHESTER
Midfielder Evan Horwood has left Chester by mutual consent and joined Welsh Premier League Bala Town. Horwood made 19+5 appearances for the Blues, scoring one goal. On leaving the club he told the Chester Chronicle. “I loved it, especially with the staff and that. There is a small army of people there who work for nothing who I absolutely love and you know how much I enjoy the community. The gaffer has been class for me and I wish I would have had him 10 years ago as my manager. I am actually a fan now, I really am, because of the background that goes on at the club, it’s fantastic.”

13 July 2017
PRE-SEASON CONTINUES
The pre-season programme continues for the Blues as goals from Jordan Chapell and Lucas Dawson gave them a 2-0 victory at Flint Town United on Tuesday night. This was followed 48hrs later with a 1-1 draw at Hyde United as Harry White opened the scoring in the first five minutes only for the Tigers to draw level from the penalty spot before the break.

PRE-SEASON UNDERWAY
Chester began their pre-season build up with a 5-1 at Runcorn Town tonight. Manager Jon McCarthy fielded three trialist’s during the 90 minutes. On the scoresheet for the Blues were Evan Horwood, Kingsley James, Harry White, Liam Davies and Nyal Bell.

ALABI JOINS TRANMERE
Striker James Alabi has joined Tranmere Rovers on a two year deal. Alibi scored 17 goals last season before rejecting a new offer from the Blues at the end of last season. Chester should be entitled to receive a fee for the player who is under 24 years of age and was developed by Chester. The fee may be decided by a tribunal if the two clubs can’t agree.
