HUGHES JOINS LEICESTER
|
Defender Sam
Hughes has made a dream move to Premier League
side Leicester City for an undisclosed fee,
(reported in the Non-League Paper to be around
£130,000). Hughes, a product of the
club’s youth policy, signed a professional
contract in July 2015 and broke through into
the first team in 2016/17 making 49+15 appearances
for the club, scoring eight goals during the
last two seasons. He also captaining the side
in the final matches.
Chief Executive Mark Maguire said: “The
club was reformed in 2010 and subsequently
took the decision to establish an academy.
Just seven years later, due to the hard work
of people like Calum McIntyre and his staff,
the likes of Brian Burns and Mike Day and
the support of people like Ian Swettenham,
the academy has produced a player who has
thrived under the management of Jon McCarthy
and proved good enough to be transferred to
the 2015/16 Premier League champions.”
