BLUES MISS OUT ON HUGHES

One of manager Steve Burr’s summer targets Matty Hughes, who had two loan spells with Chester last season, has signed a two year deal with Conference North side AFC Fylde. The 23-year-old forward scored five goals in 24+1 appearances for the Blues last season whilst on loan from Fleetwood Town. Burr said: “Obviously we wanted to get Matty signed on for next season. We made him an offer and what was on the table was a very good offer from Chester.”

“But Matty has decided to go to Flyde and I respect his decision. It’s disappointing there’s no doubt about that, and he’s dropped down a level, but we’ve got to respect his choice. Matt was a free agent so as a result it’s his choice and he’s decided where he wanted to go, and I wish him well.”
ROBERTS JOINS COUNTY
Former defender Gareth Roberts has joined Stockport County. The Conference North side are now managed by former Blues boss Neil Young.
