CHESTER BOUNCE BACK AFTER EARLY SETBACK
Chester came from behind to win 4-1 at Buxton on Good Friday. The Bucks took the lead through Bolton Wanderers loan player Ben Andreucci after just two minutes as the Blues made a slow start at Silverlands. It took just two minutes to restore parity though as Declan Weeks converted from close range.

Chester dominated as the half wore on and continued to be on top after the break. They took the lead on the hour mark with a fine strike from Harrison Burke. Four minutes later Adam Thomas volleyed home the third goal eo the delight of another large away following. The three points were wrapped up with a fourth goal from Tom Peers on 71 minutes.

BLUES DROP OUT OF PLAY-OFF PLACES
The Blues slipped to eighth in the league following Saturday’s late defeat to fellow promotion hopefuls South Shields on Saturday. Another great crowd of 2,500+ on Non-League Day, and annual MBNA Day at Chester, saw Paul Blackett find the back of the Chester net with four minutes remaining to put The Mariners level on points with Chester (with a game in hand).

Chester had dominated for much of the opening period, the nearest they came to scoring was a Harrison Burke header against the woodwork, they also lost Charlie Caton to injury towards the end of the opening half.

Competition is tight for the second to seventh playoff places with Spennymoor Town down in eleventh spot just three points away with games in hand. Both Spennymoor and South Shields play this Tuesday evening.

Chester, who have failed to score in their last four matches, will look to get back to winning ways from a trip to Buxton on Good Friday, kick-off 15.00hrs.

PROMISING DEBUT CUT SHORT
There was a promising debut from on-loan defender Kieran Burton as Chester were held at home by fellow play-off chasing side Curzon Ashton on Saturday. The game ended goalless But Burton turned in a player-of-the-match performance despite his game ending early after picking up a second yellow card 20 minutes from time and being sent-off!

On another day he could have picked up a couple of goals but for a couple of smart saves by Josh Ollerenshaw in the Nash goal in a game that saw very few chances. The Blues have now gone 11 games unbeaten, drawing seven of those, and remain firmly on contention for the end-of-season play-off’s.

Chester are back in action on Tuesday night with a home game against Southport, kick-off 19.45hrs.

BLUES SHARE THE POINTS
Chester and Scunthorpe United had to be content with a point each after Saturday’s pulsating 2-2 draw at Glanford Park, a result that wouldn’t have suited either team.

The game was a great advert for the division played in front of a National League North attendance record for a league game of 7,511, that included 1,142 Chester supporters.

Chester opened the scoring following a quick counter attack through on-loan Ben Tollitt, and held the lead at half-time. The Iron drew level on the hour mark with a Liam McAlinden header past Wyll Stanway.

Five minutes later Chester regained the lead as George Glendon, who appeared to have been fouled moments before, but picked himself up to score past Ross Fitzsimons and celebrate with the Blues hoard behind the goal.

Moments later the home wide were reduced to ten men as McAlinden was shown a straight red card by referee Louis Griffiths following a heavy challenge on Harrison Burke. Scunthorpe drew level seven minutes from time with a long range effort from Jacob Butterfield beating Stanway. There was a frantic finish on ten minutes of added time that saw substitute, and ex-Blue, Danny Elliott hit the bar for the hosts.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday with a visit from Curzon Ashton. This will be manager Calum McIntyre’s 100th game in all competitions since taking charge at Chester in May 2022.

Calum’s record...
League – P83 – W38 – D30 – L15
Play off – P1 – W0 – D0 – L1
FA Cup – P10 – W5 – D3 – L2
FA Trophy – P3 – W1 – D0 – L2
Cheshire Senior Cup – P2 – W0 – D0 – L2

Total P99W44D33L22
(Four of the cup defeats were on penalties)
