BARRIE HIPKISS
It is extremely sad
news to report that Club President Barrie Hipkiss
has died at the age of 85 following a long battle
with illness. Barrie was ‘Mr Chester’,
having started watching his beloved Blues in 1946
and took on many voluntary roles at the club over
the past 50 years.
In July 2022 the club renamed the south stand The
Hipkiss Stand to honour the lifetime dedication
to the club of both Barrie and his wife Pam. Barrie
had performed the roles of Supporters Club chairman,
Away Travel organiser and more recently Matchday
Co-ordinator at Deva Stadium. Many
Chester fans will have traveled on the “Hipkiss
Express” Barrie’s organised coach travel
to away games that he had run for over 35 years!
During that time, Pam had been providing hospitality
to visiting directors and guests as well as the
match officials at both Sealand Road and Deva Stadium.
Barrie was made an Honorary Life President when
the club reformed in 2010.
A book of condolence will be made available for
supporters to sign and leave their own comments
in the main office at the ground from Tuesday 7
May.
