FA CUP DRAW

FIVE STAR CHESTER
The Blues progressed through to the fourth round qualifying of the FA Cup on Saturday with a thumping 5-1 victory over Curzon Ashton at Deva Stadium. An entertaining match was played end-to-end right from the start, the visitors twice had the ball in the net in the opening half, both efforts ruled out for offside. Chester went into the break with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Offrande Zanzala and an own goal from Jack Stobbs.

Chester added to their tally in the second half through Dylan Mottley-Henry, Pat Jones and Connor Woods. The Nash grabbed a consolation goal two minutes from time through Jimmy Spencer.

LATE GOAL DENIES WIN

A Darlington equaliser three minutes into stoppage time robbed Chester of a victory at Blackwell Meadows on Saturday. The Blues saw an early Tom Peers goal ruled out for offside, while Dylan Mottley-Henry poked an early effort just wide as Chester pressed. A moment of brilliance on 58 minutes from Pat Jones saw the striker beat several defenders before scoring past Peter Jameson in the Quakers goal to give Chester the lead.

Jameson produced a great point blank save to deny Connor Woods adding a second goal.

The Blues were forced to defend for larger parts of the reminder of the game with both Tom Leak and Hayden Carson blocking efforts in front of Gorge Murray-Jones. The equaliser came through Josh Scott who side footed home from a Cedric Main cross.

CUP JOY FOR CHESTER

A dramatic goal two minutes from time by Jack Bainbridge steered Chester through to the next round of the FA Cup at Bower Fold on Saturday. Chester created several first half chances but were thwarted by a stubborn home defence, Tom Peers broke the deadlock on the hour mark as he latched on to a through ball from Carson and lifted the ball over the advancing Monks in the Stalybridge goal.

Stalybridge made three changes in the closing stages and began to press, they equalised through Benni Smales-Braithwaite on 77 minutes. With thoughts turning to a possible midweek replay Dylan Mottley-Henry crossed for Bainbridge who curled a beauty into the top corner giving Charlie Monks no chance in the Celtic goal.

LATE GOAL RESCUES A POINT

A Dylan Mottley-Henry goal five minutes into stoppage time gave Chester a deserved point against Scarborough Athletic on Saturday. Chester had trailed from the tenth minute as Rio Allen chasing onto a through ball and beat the onrushing George Murray-Jones to score.

Chester had dominated until then and created many chances throughout with Pat Jones the main supplier. Chester lost James Jones through injury after the break and also seemed to lose their momentum.
With time running out Kevin Roberts clipped over a cross that substitute Mottley-Henry glanced a header past Ryan Whitley into the corner to rescue a point.

The Blues turn their attention next to a visit to Northern Premier League West Division side Stalybridge Celtic in the second round qualifying of the FA Cup on Saturday, kick-off 15.00hrs.

HARD EARNED POINT

Chester picked up a point following a well deserved 2-2 draw at AFC Fylde last night, in fact the Blues were denied all three points at Mill Farm as former Blues loanee Taelor O’Kane headed home a late equaliser for The Coasters. Fylde opened the scoring through Danny Ormerod early on only for Chester to equalise before the break through the lively Pat Jones.

Jones scored again following the break to give Chester the lead. Despite some good defensive work, pressure from the home side intensified in the closing minutes, and in the 82nd minute substitutes Kieran Brockbank and O’Kane combined as the latter sent an unstoppable header past Murray-Jones as the two sides shared the points.

BLUES DRAWN AWAY IN FA CUP

Chester have been drawn away to Northern Premier League Division One West side Stalybridge Celtic in the second round qualifying. The tie is scheduled to take place at Bower Fold on Saturday 13 September, kicking off at 15.00hrs.
POOR AWAY FORM CONTINUES
It was a third successive away defeat for Chester as Worksop Town came from behind to inflict a 2-1 defeat over The Blues on Saturday. Connell Rawlinson had given Chester the lead five minutes into the second half converting from a Declan Weeks corner. Chester gave a debut in goal to on-loan Nottingham Forest goalkeeper George Murray-Jones, who was called into making a series of saves throughout the 90 minutes.

Chester’s lead lasted only six minutes before Aaron Martin restored parity for The Tigers. The home side wrapped up the three points through Luke Waterfall who headed home unmarked at the back post. The Blues almost snatched an equaliser in added time but Nathan Woodthorpe’s effort hit the crossbar.
